Inversions: Where Do You Stand with Léa

Are you curious about seeing the world Upside-Down? Think yoga is all about standing on your feet + being grounded?

In this lighthearted, upside-down adventure, we’ll flip the script (and maybe ourselves) as we explore the world of inversions. From the humble Down Dog to the daring Handstand, we’ll break down what it means to go topsy-turvy—without flipping out.

This is for the first-timers, the seasoned standers + all those who are ready to face their fears!

You don’t need to be able to do a headstand—or even want to! You just need an open mind, a curious body + a willingness to fall (with a little flair).

So… where do you stand?

Storyteller: Book Launch with Bram Levinson
Saturday January 18th, 2025 1:30pm to 3:30pm

The time has finally arrived! After five years of hard work, Bram's new book Storyteller is finally ready to be released, and we are celebrating! Join us after Bram's 11a-12:30p class on Saturday, January 18 at 13h30 for the Luna Yoga Book Launch for Storyteller. The book, along with Bram's other two books The Examined Life & A Year in the Light, will be available to purchase and Bram will be on site for a book signing and reading from the new release!

Don't miss this opportunity to celebrate all together in community as five years of hard work culminate in the release of Storyteller.

Book Summary

Life wisdom. Personal and psychological development. The collective human experience. Storyteller is all of these things intertwined, and told through stories from my life (so far!). What I set out to do with this book is to show how the act of storytelling shines a light on our common ground as we see ourselves reflected in its narratives. And while these stories are from my personal journey as a spiritual and psychological seeker, they can resonate with all of us as we connect with our own experiences and memories.

Holiday Kirtan with Myriam Turenne
Friday December 20th, from 7pm to 8:30pm

To celebrate the year’s end at Luna Yoga, we are pleased to welcome back our very own LYTT grad, devotional singer, Myriam Turenne , a kirtankara offering a celebration of connection with a Holiday Kirtan.

Kirtan Chanting is a deeply inspiring and heart-opening practice. It calms the mind, helps us resolve unwanted tensions and find inner freedom. We sing in Sanskrit, a language revealed by the wise from ancient times like the language of the heart. It’s an ideal way to experience the joy of singing in a group; the emphasis is on participation rather than performance.

Accessible to everyone, Myriam will guide you in this yoga practice of the voice.

Cost: $40

Myriam Turenne

Myriam is a spiritual singer-songwriter. Through her music and her inspiring words, she manages to make her audience see and feel all the beauty that is found within them, helping them find the path to their soul. After many years as a graphic designer, she left the stress of her old lifestyle to devote herself to music. In 2018, she met her teacher Girish (an internationally renowned world music artist) and went on tour with him. Thanks to Girish, she recorded her first album: “Invincible”. Saturday, October 26th, 2024, 2:00 - 3:30pm

Breathe, move, rest and reset.

Join Luna’s Stéphanie Mercier, for an accessible therapeutic yoga practice dedicated to brain health. All proceeds will be donated to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.

Discover powerful ways yoga can reduce stress, and improve breathing patterns, concentration and mind-body awareness - all of which have protective effects on our brains.

This 90 minute gentle flo will focus on relaxation techniques and creating neuroplasticity through movement. By increasing the brain's capacity to form new neural connections and pathways, we train ourselves to be more resilent to experiences, learning, or changes in the environment.

During the practice, students will explore:

  • breathwork to engage the relaxation response

  • thoughtful movement through a slow vinyasa flo

  • self-inquiry and deep calm with a 30 minute iRest yoga nidra session

The class is designed to help students feel refreshed, clear-minded,and  a little more equipped to manage everyday stress and emotions. It was inspired by Stéphanie’s experience as a caregiver to her mother who is suffering from dementia.

The Alzheimer Society mission is to alleviate the personal and social consequences of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias and to promote the search for causes, treatments and a cure.

Donation of $10 with all proceeds going to Alzheimer Society of Canada.

Stéphanie Mercier

Stephanie happened upon yoga as a complement to running and cycling. Over time, yoga - its philosophy and transformative effects became her main focus and she has been sharing her passion through teaching since 2021. She offers vinyasa flo with a therapeutic approach in group or private sessions, helping students advance their practice, come back to movement or adapt them when dealing with particular challenges like stress or injuries.

It's been almost 10 years and we're excited to announce that Eoin Finn will be returning to Luna Yoga this August! Founder of Blissology Yoga, originally from Vancouver, British Columbia, Eoin Finn is a world-renowned yogi, surfer and eco-activist who launched the Blissology EcoKarma project in 2014 to raise awareness through yoga and activism to the world's precious but imperiled coral reefs.

Jules Febre was born and raised in a section of New York City known as the Lower East Side. At the age of 13, Jules spent three months in India; two of which were spent in Mysore studying Ashtanga Yoga with Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois. During that time he was invited to share satsang with Swami Nirmalananda and Shyam Das, two radical yogis that have each contributed greatly to the progression of yoga in the West. At the age of 16 Jules began working at the Jivamukti Yoga School helping to clean, and is now considered one of the leading teachers of the Jivamukti Yoga method, teaching the method world wide as well as facilitating at the very highly regarded teacher training programs.

Jules travels and teaches for a major part of each year, including Europe, Australia, Asia, and more. His classes offer a wide range and depth of understanding of Yoga Asana as well as Meditation, Chanting, and Yoga Philosophy.

Teaching yoga is Jules’ passion. He is grateful to his teachers, Sharonji (Gannon), Davidji (Life) who he has had the privilege of studying with for over 15 years, for igniting his devotion to the Jivamukti Yoga practice and for inspiring countless students around the world.

“Much of our time is spent in a virtual world of computers, phones and many other automated transactions. We are always choosing how to spend our time, which shapes our lives. The power of coming together, of sharing ideas, insights and practicing asana lends one to become more receptive. As we undertake this journey, we may do so together and thus together we come to realize the vastness of our existence.”—Jules Febre

Satsang: Yoga Death and the Occult - by donation

Friday 7:30-8:30pm

Join YuMee Chung for a by-donation satsang on the subject of yoga, death and the siddhis (the supernatural powers that are said to come with yoga practice). We will discuss some of the rationales for śavāsana (corpse pose), clarify yogic perspectives on the death of the body (including the concept of the great merger with the divine, or mahāsamādhi), before turning to the subject of yoga’s historic relationship with occult themes and it’s implications for modern practitioners.

Donations will go to Native Women’s Shelter of Montreal

Birds of a Feather workshop - $60

Saturday: 1-3pm

If high flying poses make you queasy, you're not alone. Join YuMee Chung for a workshop that makes arm balancing more accessible to yogis of all ages and all levels of experience. Learn strategies for leveraging your personal strengths to find safe, effective and fun ways to meet these exhilarating poses on your own terms. We will cover crow/crane (and all its relations), flying pigeon, peacock, peacock feather and a form of press handstand that flows naturally out of our work together. You will use core exercises, conscious corrective movement and partner work to prepare the body in a methodical way so the poses grow naturally from the ground up. Students should come prepared to surprise themselves and to breeze past perceived limitations.

Sympathy for the Deltoid - $60

Saturday 4-6pm

Shoulder issues will strike most people at some point during their lives. This is because the shoulder girdle is one of the most complicated joint systems in the body, and we modern humans use our arms and shoulders on a daily basis for both work and play. The shoulders suffer from chronic issues that lead to rotator cuff injuries, frozen shoulder, upper back pain, neck tension, and headaches. In this therapeutic and educational workshop, we will address habitual holding patterns, retrain your pain, and learn how to keep your shoulders supple, stable and happy for decades to come. All levels welcome.

Language, Cuing and Artful Communication - $90

Sunday 1-4pm

This teaching skills workshop for yoga instructors starts from the premise that the only thing more important than what you say is how you say it. Our learning objectives are to deepen our self-awareness and capacity for self-assessment; deconstruct unconscious teaching habits; move past teaching ruts and plateaus; and uncover our unique teaching voices as we learn to communicate with greater ease, creativity and virtuosity.

You can expect to cover the following topics:

• Deconstructing common language habits

• Cuing clarity

• The poetry of yoga

This workshop is open to certified yoga, movement and fitness teachers and teachers in training. This workshop qualifies you for Yoga Alliance Continuing Education hours.

4hr Sequencing Workshop: Back-bending Focus

We all know the power of a good sequence of āsana, a sense of clarity, calm, ease in the body and mind. We begin the journey with the knowledge of where we want to go. When it comes to creating a sequence for an āsana class we may ask ourselves: Is there a peak pose, mood or further practice we preparing for or is this sequence the goal. The answer to these questions will determine when we strengthen or mobilise, pick up the pace or let it settle. This sequencing workshop is for teachers or serious students who wish to learn more about the art of sequencing āsana for themselves and others.

With backward bending as our theme will focus on:

-3 regions in the body that need attention and care when backbending

-3 categories of backward bending

-Key muscles within each region including direction of muscle fibres, connections to other muscles/ligaments or tendons.

Teachers and/ or dedicated practitioners.

FULL WEEKEND: $240+ tax

Jules.jpg

Jivamukti Class with Guest Teacher Osman

Jivamukti with special guest Osman (OZ) Zin AlAbdin

Join us for a special class with visiting Jivamukti teacher Osman (OZ) from Dubai!

In 2016, at the age of 36, 14 Kg overweight, with no background in any professional sport, the quest for loosing weight and looking for a healthier lifestyle began. He started with P90X3 “X3 Yoga” class online. Couple of months later he came across Dina Ghandour’s (300 HR certified Jivamukti teacher), Jivamukti Open Class and it was love at first sight. The Journey has begun!

He was drawn to this practice after attending many different studios, teachers and methods, but his body and soul have found a new home in Jivamukti. It is where he felt he belong. He was attending Dina’s Jivamukti classes 4 to 5 times per week. In the same year, Jules Febre came to Dubai for a 3 days workshop and again that workshop re-assured his soul that he is in the right place. Couple of months after the workshop he had the opportunity to register for an intensive Vinyasa flow 200 HR teacher training program with Dylan Werner in which only 24 students were enrolled over a span of 21 days. He came back home with a strong passion to share my love and journey with everyone. Soon after, he started teaching Power Vinyasa flow classes at a new yoga studio. Jivamukti global then announced the launch of their 75 HR program, especially with one training featuring Jules Febre (whom I met earlier that year) and HaChi Yu, he signed up immediately. He came to Montreal in November 2019 at Luna Yoga to participate in the intensive workshop with Jules Febre. He recently did his 300 HR  advanced teacher training with Dylan Werner. He has been teaching in Dubai's leading studios since 2019 and his passion combined with his meticulous scientific approach make his classes unique and powerful.

Chakra Tuning Master Class with Frances Vicente

Chakra Tuning Master Class with Frances Vicente

Chakra Tuning Master Class with Frances Vicente
Saturday, February 20th, 2021, 2:00 - 4:00pm

Chakra is the Sanskrit word for wheel. The chakras are energy centres in the subtle body. Though they are part of our subtle anatomy they have physical reference points, throughout the body and along the spine. They represent levels of consciousness and correspond to our senses, the elements, our organs as well as our actions (karmas) and relationships in the past. The various different yoga asanas (postures) allow us to access and heal our karmic relationships. When combined with chanting mantra and high intention we can resolve our past karmas and return to a space of ease within ourselves and find a deeper sense of connection.

In this workshop you will learn about 7 chakras and all of the various aspects of yourself that they relate to. Chanting mantras while engaging in asana and high intention will add a deeper experience to your practice and allow you to release and resolve karmas and relationships you are holding on to from your past, which cause discomfort and dis-ease. This workshop will leave you feeling more grounded, more open, more connected and with a deep sense of restored inner peace.

Frances’ class was both very informative, and challenging and spiritually satisfying. It was my first experience participating in this type of practice and I truly loved every minute of it. Thanks to both Luna and Frances for a great afternoon!
Frances headshot.jpg

With a background in hip hop dance and competitive sport aerobics, Frances first began practicing yoga in 2006 when she started working for lululemon athletica. This became her new passion and way of life. To her, dance is very much an outward expression, whereas yoga offers an opportunity for self-reflection. In 2011, Frances completed her 300-hour Jivamukti Teacher Training with Sharon Gannon and David Life in New York. In January 2013, she became a certified Advanced Jivamukti Teacher and in May 2015 she had the honour and privilege of mentoring the Jivamukti Teacher Training in New York. She is also an ambassador for lululemon athletica for a second time! Frances would like to extend humble thanks and gratitude to her first teachers, Yasmin and Jennifer, her gurus, Sharonji and Davidji, as well as her friends and family who have consistently and unfailingly supported and encouraged her along her path. She draws from experiences and relationships in all areas of her life to bring creativity, compassion, joy and laughter to her classes and teachings.

$35 + tax ($30 + tax by February 13th)
