More Than a Studio: Celebrating 22 Years of Luna Yoga

by Nicola Colville

On July 1st, Luna Yoga turned 22—not just 22 years of yoga classes, but 22 years of shared breath, quiet courage, returning to the mat, and returning to each other. And yes, that included 22 boat poses—one for each incredible year—in keeping with Jenn’s now- legendary anniversary class tradition. In a world that moves fast and often pulls us in many directions, a space like Luna—a place that invites presence, compassion, and

connection—is rare. And worth celebrating.

So, what makes a studio endure? It’s the living, breathing community that grows within its walls — the intangible moments that go beyond schedules or sequences. It’s the collective rhythm of bare feet on floorboards signaling a shared journey; the warm smiles that connect strangers in silent practice; the unfolding of friendships born from simply showing up side by side. It’s the meaningful ritual of unrolling your mat, the subtle hum of music in the background, the quiet chatter before class, and the lingering

conversations afterwards that transform a space into a sanctuary. It’s the teachers who remember your name, a glance of understanding that says “I see you” during a challenging pose, the way the room itself holds us steady, even on the days we’re not quite sure how to hold ourselves. These are the threads that have woven Luna’s story—making it not just a studio, but a lasting home for everyone who gathers here in

practice and community.

For me, Luna became that space over 4 years ago. I found it by chance, but like so many others, I stayed by choice. Over time, the studio became more than a place to explore, energize, and empower. It became a place to land. The teachers, the community, the practice itself—all of it came together to form something quietly powerful. A sense of belonging.

This anniversary isn’t just about marking time. It’s about honoring the community that shows up—on good days, hard days, and everything in between. It’s about the way we hold space for one another without needing to speak. The way we share a collective exhale in savasana. The way we grow alongside each other, simply by being present.

And of course, it’s about celebrating. Celebrating the people and presence that make Luna what it is. The founders who imagined this space into being. The teachers who continue to guide us with care and intention. The students who arrive, again and again, bringing their energy, stories, and breath. It’s a celebration of the quiet strength that lives in community. Of the countless moments of stillness, of challenge, of connection that have unfolded here. We’re not just marking time; we’re honoring the heart that holds it all together.

Whether you arrived 22 years ago or just last week, you’ve become part of Luna’s story—and Luna has become part of yours. Together, we’ve made this more than a studio. We’ve made it a home.

Happy anniversary Luna!

Namaste,

Nix

The Nix Fix: Where the Mat Meets the Page

Meet Our New Blogger: Nicola Colville

We’re excited to introduce Nicola, or Nix for short, a recent graduate from our Luna Yoga Teacher Training program, who will be joining us as a regular blogger! Through her fresh perspective + personal experiences practicing at Luna Yoga, she’ll be sharing insights, stories that inspire and connect our community.

Stay tuned for her upcoming posts that dive into the joys, challenges, and growth that come with a dedicated yoga practice. Welcome to the Luna Yoga family, Nix —we can’t wait to read your journey!

Where the Mat Meets the Page

I started practicing yoga in 2014, but it wasn’t until a few years later—on a quiet walk around my neighborhood—that I stumbled upon Luna Yoga. The studio is just around the corner from home, and on a whim, I stepped inside. I spoke with Shannon about the studio and signed up for the 1 month introductory offer. Before I left, she smiled and said, “Thank you for choosing Luna Yoga to enrich your practice.” And it has done exactly that.

Luna has become so much more than a studio. It’s a space where practice meets presence, and where community flourishes. Every teacher, every class, and every quiet moment on the mat has added depth not only to my asana practice but to my life. I’m deeply grateful for the grounding, inspiration, and belonging I’ve found within these walls.

Earlier this year, I completed my yoga teacher training at Luna. While I wasn’t immediately drawn to teach, I felt something equally compelling: a desire to be an ambassador for yoga—to share how it shows up beyond the mat. Yoga has long been a steadying force in my life, especially after moving to Canada and navigating the uncertainties of new beginnings. It offered strength, clarity, and a kind of homecoming.

Shortly after training ended, I began noticing small moments during practice—gentle cues from teachers, quiet realizations in savasana, shifts in my own inner dialogue. I started jotting them down, drawing parallels between what unfolded on the mat and what echoed in daily life. A yoga diary emerged, not to document perfection or progress, but to capture presence.

That’s what writing has become for me: a practice of presence. When I write about a class, I slow down enough to feel it again—not just remember it, but re-inhabit it with intention. It’s also become a form of connection. What begins as a personal reflection often resonates with others too, revealing the shared threads of our experience.

Sometimes, writing even feels like devotion—a quiet offering of gratitude to the teachers and community that continue to shape my path. This blog is one such offering.

In sharing these reflections, I’m simply hoping to hold space—for insight, for self-connection, and for the beautiful in-between moments we sometimes overlook. If something you read here helps you feel more rooted in your practice or more connected to this vibrant Luna Yoga community, then these words have met you just where I hoped they might.

Because yoga isn’t just what happens on the mat. It’s also what we carry with us when we leave—and sometimes, what we’re called to write down and share along the way.

Namaste
